Caring for the
Koalas of Ramond Island

We rescue, care and rehabilitate sick, injured and orphaned koalas. Protecting the lives of koalas that call Raymond Island home.

ABOUT US

Protecting Raymond Island’s Koalas, One Life at a Time

Koalas of Raymond Island Inc. is a volunteer run wildlife shelter that rescues, treats and rehabilitates sick and injured koalas, and raises orphaned or abandoned koala joeys.

Our team works every day to provide safe care and to return the animals to their natural habitat. The island is known for its strong koala population, which makes this work important for the wellbeing of the animals and the health of the local environment.

Koalas Thriving in Their Natural Habitat

Raymond Island offers a rare opportunity to see koalas in their natural environment.

Why Raymond Island Matters

Raymond Island is a unique location in East Gippsland. Visitors travel from across Australia and overseas to walk the Koala Trail and view these animals in their natural environment.

Although the island is a well-known tourist attraction, there is no direct government funding for the care of the koalas. The shelter relies completely on donations and local fundraising to cover veterinary bills, joey formula, medical supplies, specialist food, rescue equipment and other daily costs needed to run the shelter

Koalas do not ‘sleep’ or ‘rest’ on the ground. If you see a koala sitting on the ground for an extended period, they need urgent help.

If a koala is drinking water excessively it may have kidney issues and needs assessment.
